Johan cycles to raise a nice amount for KWF during Vrijthof–Vrijthof
On Saturday, May 10, 2025, Johan, remembering his father, cycled the Vrijthof–Vrijthof Challenge: a sporty mountain bike ride from the Vrijthof square in Maastricht to the Vrijthof square in Hilvarenbeek, aimed at raising money for the Dutch Cancer Society (KWF). Johan raised a substantial amount for the KWF during Vrijthof–Vrijthof with his personal fundraising campaign.
Johan completed the full distance of 168 kilometers. In addition, he and his team, MTB Oirschot, cycled on to the Vrijthof square in Oirschot, completing a total of 185 kilometers.
Together, the more than 2,000 participants in the Vrijthof–Vrijthof raised an impressive €1.2 million for the KWF this year. Team MTB Oirschot contributed €13,069.40. Johan managed to raise €8,154.30 with his personal fundraising campaign. Johan sold a hat for every kilometer. The 168 hats have now been sponsored, and with this campaign, Johan finished third among all the participants – an achievement to be proud of!
"Besides being proud to have completed the 185 kilometers, I'm also grateful that I, along with my teammates and all our sponsors, was able to make this contribution. But what I remember most is that, as a participant, I feel especially privileged to have been able to contribute in this way to this wonderful adventure: the Vrijthof–Vrijthof Challenge." – Johan van Overbeek
