Wallenhorst (D)

Above the wooden decks of this terrace at a private residence in Wallenhorst four swamp oak provide the required shade. Each Quercus palustris has a tight and flat form from 2.40 meters height, forming a large square 'roof'. During the summer, the trees have a neutral green colour. Against the autumn leafs discolour from red and orange to brown. In that period, the trees perfectly match the red colour of the house. Even in winter, when the brown leaf remain hanging on the tree for a long time, the trees colour beautifully at the facade of the House.

Along the driveway and parking lot of the office building next to the house, a number of Salix alba ‘Chermesina’ are planted. This willow has deliberately been chose, because of the warm orange colour in the winter, a colour which fits again perfectly with the colour of the office building. That's why the trees are only pollarded at the beginning of the spring. Between the willows grow cone shaped Betula ermanii ‘Holland’. The shape of the birch gives a nice contrast with those of the willows. And their white trunks also play an important role during the winter months.
